Safety Awareness

SAFETY TIPS:

1. Know how to dial 911.

2. Know your full name, address and phone number.

3. Do not wear articles of clothing or carry a bag with your name visible on the outside.

4. Remember that a stranger may seem friendly. Appearances may be deceiving.

5. NEVER accept a ride from ANYONE unless your parents say it is okay. Create a secret code word known only by you and your parents. Never go with someone who does not know the code word.

6. Walk with confidence! Pay attention to your surroundings and the people around you.

7. It is okay to say NO to an adult if: he/she tries to take you without your parents' permission; he/she touches you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable. (Inappropriate touch--always tell a trusted adult!)

8. Scream and run if you are in danger; do not be embarrassed to be safe.

9. Never walk alone; avoid alleys. Do not separate from your group.

10. Look for uniformed adults in case of a problem.

11. At home: Don't open the door. Don't answer the phone. Don't go somewhere without parents' permission.

12. Adults don't ask kids for help, they ask other adults. You are not being rude if you don't help, you are being safe!

13. Internet Safety: Don't give out personal information. Don't ever meet strangers that you have met online. Don't send your photo to anybody online. Tell your parents if you feel uncomfortable.

Kidz 'N Power; Safety N.E.T. Kids

Mr. Jack Cochnar and Mrs. Suzy Cochnar are both certified instructors of the Safety N.E.T. Kids program, as well as Kidz 'N Power.

The Safety N.E.T Kids child safety programs are the only child safety videos endorsed by Code Amber, child psychologists, law enforcement and child safety advocates from all over the country!

It is the mission of Safety N.E.T. Kids to raise the level of awareness in the three largest threats facing children today, that of child sexual abuse and abduction (child safety), bullying and childhood obesity.

To accomplish this large mission children need continuing education and physical response practice. The Safety N.E.T. Program offers exactly this.

The Safety N.E.T. Kids System

1) The Safety N.E.T. Kids DVD and curriculum work together to make for an exciting learning experience.

2) Children watch a portion of the Safety N.E.T. Kids DVD, the program is paused and children take part in the physical response practice.

3) When children are finished with the course, the Safety N.E.T. Kids DVD's are made available to them which further reinforces the lessons taught.

The Crete ATA Martial Arts Academy will give Safety N.E.T. Kids (SNK) interactive demonstrations to children in Crete and its surrounding communities. The instructors at the Crete ATA feel that it is vitally important for the information on child abduction and child sexual assault to be presented to all children, to raise their level of awareness. Please call the Crete ATA Martial Arts Academy to set up a SNK demonstration.

N.E.T.= No Easy Targets!

S.H.A.R.P.S.

The instructors at the Crete ATA feel that it is very important women of all ages to learn more about staying safe. Mr. and Mrs. Cochnar are both certified in S.H.A.R.P.S. (Sexual Harrassment and Rape Prevention Seminar) and can give workshops for women's self defense.
